Raised in nature, Marina Leight began creating clothing as a young child. Inspired by her youth growing up in the San Juan Islands, and continuing into young adulthood working on her family’s fishing boat in Alaska, Marina’s respect for nature is now embedded in the ethos of her brand. She sources biodegradable and repurposed materials as part of her effort to highlight, conserve, and give back to the earth in everything she does.
At the beginning of her career, Marina graduated at the top of her class at FIDM’s Debut Show. She then traveled to Europe under full scholarship where she received training under a Savile Row tailor, and was subsequently invited to apprentice couture following her study at Accademia Koefia in Rome, Italy. It was there that she picked up her penchant for meticulous design and garment finishing. After 3 years of design work in Italy, Marina returned to the states to launch design agency, factory, and custom atelier Alumni Design. At Alumni, she helped to design for and build clients’ brands for nearly a decade before deciding to close and pivot, reinventing herself under her namesake brand, Marina Leight Atelier, in 2021.
